Land

Alpha Motors (Irvine, Electric Retro Vehicles): With an advisory board of seasoned executives from the likes of Tesla, Alpha Motors is envisioning the EV industry with sleek retro-style EVs. Alpha Motors is privately funded and was founded in 2020.

Rivian (Irvine, Electric Trucks and SUVs): On a mission “to keep the world adventurous forever,” the Irvine-based automaker specializing in long range off-road vehicles has been an especially vocal EV company against carbon emissions.

Arrival (Anaheim, Electric Buses): Pioneering the use of AI-microfactories, Arrival is electrifying the transportation industry. Based in the UK, they are working with the Federal Transportation Administration to serve Anaheim.

altCamp (Costa Mesa, Luxury Camping Vehicles with Solar Panels): Started with the vision of becoming a “four seasons on wheels,” altCamp is addressing post-pandemic demand for luxury RV rentals. Their brand new fleet of Mercedes-Benz Sprinters are complete with WiFi, hot showers, modern interiors and solar panels.

Mullen (Brie, Luxury EVs): Mullen works with “several synergistic businesses” geared towards developing and expanding electric vehicles and related technology.  For instance, Mullen has partnered with Israeli atmospheric drinking water company Watergen to develop a system to filter water from the air (on the order of liters) that can be applied to a vehicle’s mechanics.

Space

AstroForge (Huntington Beach, Space Asteroid Mining): It was only a matter of time before space and the mining industries crossed paths, right? AstroForge is collaborating with SpaceX to harvest precious metals from asteroids by the end of the decade. 

Relativity Space (Long Beach, 3D-Printed Rockets): Relativity Space uses AI, automated robotics and 3D printing to manufacture rockets quickly and accurately; their unique manufacturing process simplifies their supply chain, customizes parts for aerodynamic optimization, and deploys rapid iterations. The company’s goal is to “print and launch the first rocket made on Mars.

Virgin Galactic (Tustin, Commercial Spaceline): Headquartered in California and operating out of futuristic Spaceport America in New Mexico, Virgin Galactic’s mission is “to connect people across the globe to the love, wonder and awe created by space travel.” Tickets are on sale for next year, and you can sign up too — they’ve already sold 800 for $450,000 each.

Virgin Orbit (Long Beach, Business Satellite Services): Not to be confused with Virgin Galactic, Virgin Orbit is more focused on governments and businesses, launching spacecraft into orbit using Boeing 747s.

Terran Orbital (Irvine, Military & Commercial Small Satellite Manufacturer)

Tyvak Satellite Solutions (Irvine, Aviation and Aerospace): A Terran Orbital company.

Iceye – Satellite arrays with a new location in OC.

Air

Overair (Santa Ana, eVTOL Urban Air Mobility): Overair designs electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) planes, originally developed to transport Navy Seals to hot zones. Their next stop is the up and coming urban air mobility market — your next Uber might have wings!

Anduril Industries (Costa Mesa, Defense Tech and Surveillance): Based in Costa Mesa, Anduril Industries is a land, air and sea defense tech company. Additionally, Anduril develops satellite communications and military software.

Silent Arrow (Aliso Viejo, Autonomous Cargo Drones)

Plana (Irvine, flying electric taxis)

Supernal (Irvine, eVTOL Smart Mobility): Based in Washington DC and part of Hyundai, with major engineering and research operations in Irvine, Supernal is looking to reimagine urban transportation.

Sea

Duffy Motors (Newport Beach, Electric Boats)

 

Infrastructure

EnerDel’s Advanced Engineering Tech Center (Irvine, Energy Storage and Batteries): A lithium-ion manufacturer based in Indiana, EnerDel recently opened an advanced engineering center in Irvine to develop next-gen batteries for electric vehicles. Their efforts at this new facility will enhance energy infrastructure and battery performance.

Qmerit (Irvine, Electric Vehicle Charging Network): Irvine’s Qmerit is focused on accelerating the energy transition, offering EV charging, battery walls and microgrid capabilities.
